Book Group Smackdown Wed 8/29, 11am - noon

Tired of book groups where everyone reads the same book and discusses that one book in nice, polite language? Come to the BRPL Book Group, where everyone brings a different book (your favorite?!?) and argues that it is the best.

Inspiration Desk Tue 8/28, noon - 2pm

Writer’s block got you down? Not sure how to start your next painting? Have any sort of project that’s stuck? Maybe you’re in need of a creative spark or a kick in the butt? Then visit the Black Rock Public Library’s INSPIRATION DESK. We’re open Tuesday at noon and other random times. The Muse rarely works on a schedule. The line forms to the left.

Poetry Dispensary Mon 8/27, 3 - 5pm & Wed 8/29, 4 - 6pm

No matter what ails your heart, you'll find a poignant remedy at our Poetry Dispensary station. We supply high quality, personalized prescriptions of exactly what you need for your symptoms—whether a lozenge of limerick, or a syringe of sestina, or a vial of villanelle.

Ms. Frizzle's Magic School Bus Mon 8/27, 1 - 2pm

Come listen to The Friz read from the library’s copious selection of children’s books.

Readings at the Loos Mon 8/27 - Fri 8/31, 9 - 11am

Librarians will regale you during your morning constitutionals with selected passages from relevant texts, such as "Anal Pleasure and Health" and "Lady Chatterley's Lover."

Singing Bowls 101 Wed 8/29, 3 - 4pm

Are you curious about Sound Healing? Come play with us! You'll have an assortment of singing bowls, singing saws, and other noisemakers at your disposal, and we'll help guide your exploration to unlock the secrets of sound. All are welcome, no musical experience necessary. Oh, you'd rather listen than play? No problem! We're going to need practice subjects for our students.

"Author" Book Signing Tue 8/28 - Wed 8/29, 3 - 4pm

For one hour only, you will have the opportunity to meet any author, dead or alive! Bring your own book, or check one out from our collection, and then bring it to the "Author" to get it signed and have a once-in-a-lifetime conversation with your literary hero.

Tea and Poetry Thu 8/30, noon - 1pm

Enjoy tea provided by Camp Brewhaha and read aloud your favorite poems, or choose one of ours! Poems from such coveted genres as: “British”, “Shitty”, “Very Olde”, and “Not Sure If Sexual” will be provided.

Prizes given for most ethereal poetry, most nervous reader, smuttiest performance, and more!
